We live in a world obsessed with status.
What you drive. Where you live. What you wear. What you own.
But the truth is, status outside of God’s Kingdom is meaningless — a vapor that vanishes the moment you try to hold onto it.
Start With This Question:
“If I had ______, would I allow that to affect my sense of identity?”
Be honest with yourself.
Would having a luxury car change how you carry yourself?
Would getting a high-paying job suddenly make you feel more important?
Would reaching a million followers give you a new sense of worth?
It’s not wrong to enjoy good things. But it is dangerous to let them define you.
The Vapor of Ecclesiastes
The book of Ecclesiastes calls it out clearly:
“Everything is meaningless — like vapor, a chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 1:2, paraphrased)
The Hebrew word used here is “Hevel” (הֶבֶל) — meaning vapor, smoke, breath.
It’s real, you can see it, but you can’t hold it. It’s fleeting.
That’s what status is like.
It feels amazing in the moment — but try to grab it, try to build your life on it — and it disappears.
When I Realized I Was Tempted Too…
Not long ago, I caught myself imagining what it would be like to own a Rolls-Royce.
I thought, “Would I feel different if I drove that? Would people look at me differently? Would I even walk differently?”
And the truth?
Yeah. I probably would feel different. I’d enjoy the status.
But that’s the problem. That feeling would start to become part of my identity. I’d start relying on it to feel significant — instead of God.
Your True Status: Kingdom Citizen
Here’s the truth that changes everything:
God has already given you the highest status possible — you are His citizen. His child. His heir.
The Bible says:
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
(Philippians 3:20)
You are a co-heir with Christ. (Romans 8:17)
The earth is His footstool, and He invites you to walk with Him — not as a servant begging for scraps, but as a citizen of His Kingdom.
That comes with identity.
That comes with power.
That comes with life.
Take Hold of What Matters Most
There is nothing — no car, no career, no clout — that should make you feel more significant than being a citizen of God’s Kingdom.
If you forget everything else, remember this:
Your value isn’t in what you have, it’s in who you belong to.
This life? It’s a vapor. But how you live it echoes in eternity.
And the One who matters most — the King — will remember.
So let your life be a glorious song to Him.
Final Thoughts
Don’t trade the eternal for the temporary.
Don’t chase vapor.
Instead, walk boldly in your heavenly status.
Let your identity be anchored in Christ.
And let the world see what true royalty looks like.
You are a Kingdom Citizen. That’s more than enough.
