We’ve all heard about the Proverbs 31 woman — the faithful wife, the hard worker, the woman of strength, wisdom, and virtue.
But did you know Proverbs 31 also speaks of a man?
“Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits among the elders of the land.”
— Proverbs 31:23
This verse paints a picture of a Proverbs 31 man — one who is respected, wise, and deeply rooted in godliness. A man of honor, trusted to sit among leaders and influence the city with integrity.
Men, Are We Living Up to the Standard We Expect?
Let’s be real for a second.
Men often place pressure on women to be the “Proverbs 31 wife.”
But are we even on the road to becoming the kind of Proverbs 31 man that such a woman deserves?
We ask for:
-
God-fearing women,
-
Women of purity,
-
Women of wisdom…
But we forget that God’s daughters are His treasures.
And God’s not in the business of handing out treasures to men who haven’t prepared their character, their calling, or their heart.
Being “Well Known at the City Gates” Doesn’t Mean Fame
Let’s be clear — this isn’t about being famous.
It’s about being known for your character.
It’s about being respected in your community.
It’s about being Godly enough to be trusted with leadership, responsibility, and influence.
This isn’t about status — it’s about substance.
Ask yourself:
-
Am I known for my integrity?
-
Am I a man people can trust and follow?
-
Do I lead with wisdom or react out of ego?
-
Am I becoming someone worthy of a Proverbs 31 woman?
Stop Asking for a Proverbs 31 Woman If You’re Not on the Road to Becoming a Proverbs 31 Man
If you’re not pursuing wisdom,
If you’re not building godly discipline,
If you’re not humbling yourself before the Lord…
Why would you expect God to bless you with someone as precious as one of His daughters?
We don’t attract what we want.
We attract what we’re becoming.
The Call: Become the Kind of Man God Can Trust
Today is the day to check yourself.
Not out of guilt — but out of growth.
Not to shame yourself — but to level up in your calling as a man of God.
You don’t need to be famous.
You don’t need to be perfect.
But you do need to be on the path.
Lord, am I on the road to being godly enough
to receive and cherish one of your daughters?
Ask that. Pray that.
And start becoming that kind of man.
