Too often, modern-day Christians look at believers in other denominations and say,
“They’re doing it wrong.”
Maybe it’s the way they worship.
Maybe it’s that they have a picture of Jesus on the wall.
Maybe it’s because they honor traditions we don’t fully understand.
And yet — how does any of that take away from someone’s salvation?
How do we allow our differences to divide what Jesus called to be one body?
Welcome to
The Church Documentary
My name is Elijah Durant, CEO of Upend Clothing, and this is a new chapter.
I’m starting a journey — a documentary — where I will go from denomination to denomination, spending one month with each church.
Why?
Because I want to learn.
I want to listen, not just evaluate.
I want to find where the Lord is moving — not just where I think He should be.
Why This Matters
This is more than curiosity.
This is about identity.
At Upend, we believe in showing people that they are citizens of God’s Kingdom. And when you truly know that — when you live like you belong to the King — it changes how you see others.
I can’t look at another Christian and say,
“You’re wrong because your denomination is different than mine.”
That’s not the heart of Christ.
I want to see the Church united.
In my own young adults group, we all come from different churches, different traditions, and we don’t agree on everything. But that’s the beauty of it.
Just like the hand doesn’t function like the foot, we each have different roles.
And together, we form one body.
What the Bible Says About Unity
“There is one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all.”
(Ephesians 4:4–6)
We may disagree on small things.
But we must agree on the main thing:
Jesus is Lord.
What to Expect from the Documentary
Every month, I’ll be:
-
Attending services
-
Talking with pastors, priests, and church leaders
-
Observing how they live out their faith
-
Asking important questions about Scripture, tradition, and unity
I’ll be documenting what I see, learn, and wrestle with — not to tear down, but to build bridges.
The 6 Core Questions I’ll Be Asking:
-
Does what they teach align with Scripture?
I won’t judge based on tradition or opinion — only by God’s Word.
-
Is anything clearly unbiblical or misaligned with the Gospel?
-
How is God working through this church and its people?
-
How can we walk alongside this denomination as the Body of Christ?
(This isn’t about joining denominations, but about joining hands.)
-
What does their community look like?
How do they treat each other? How do they serve?
-
What did I personally learn?
Where did I grow? What did God show me through them?
After each church visit, I’ll either host a video reflection or sit down with a church leader for a conversation — podcast style.
Why It Matters Now
I’ve seen churches that treat the Bible as sacred — bowing as it’s carried in reverence.
And I’ve seen churches where the Bible is mishandled — even ripped on stage.
Does one “do church” right and the other wrong?
Maybe. Maybe not.
But this journey isn’t about condemning. It’s about understanding.
Jesus didn’t come to condemn — He came to bring life and set people free.
And I believe that’s our job too.
Will You Join Me?
As you watch and read along, ask yourself:
✦ How can I learn from this church?
✦ How can I walk in love and truth at the same time?
✦ How can I see these people as brothers and sisters in Christ?
Drop your questions in the comments or email me.
I’d love to bring your insights into these conversations.
Final Thought
The Church is not a brand.
It’s not a building.
It’s not a denomination.
The Church is the Body of Christ. And it’s time we started acting like it.
Let’s become one people under one King,
walking in freedom, unity, and truth.
